    Find me on...

    Adelaide to Port Augusta

We left my hostel around 10am, but before we left Adelaide we went into town to organise some maps and travel advice from a visitor information centre. We then went grocery shopping to get food supplies for the first couple of days. Around 12.30pm we were finally ready to start the tour.

Outside of Adelaide, the landscape changed surprisingly quick — more rural, flat, long roads, dry vegetation. You quickly notice you’re not in the city anymore.

I was driving the second half of the trip, a weird feeling. I have an Australian drivers license but never actually had the chance to drive a car in Australia. The long straight roads were the best opportunity to get used to it. Really all that was new to me was simply to sit on the right and drive on the left, the mirrored location of some instruments, and the automatic transmission of our car (in Germany only old people drive automatic). No problems at all.

We were trying to get to Woomera on the first day, but with our late start we only made it until Port Augusta before it got dark. We stayed on a pretty good campground there, facilities were excellent.

We used the campground kitchen to cook dinner and then stayed inside the warm kitchen shed with our laptops until they kicked us out at 9pm to lock up during the night.
