In 2008 I moved from Germany to Australia, the best decision of my life. On this blog you can find stories and photos about hiking in Tasmania and on the mainland, travelling, and life in Australia — my journey from Working Holiday to Permanent Residency.

What makes it interesting to live in a foreign country are the differences to your home country. Like if you go to a supermarket you can discover a lot of food that you’ve never seen before, or maybe you just never noticed it because the packaging looked less appealing in the supermarkets of your home country.
Every now an then when I’m doing the weekend shopping I discover such a product and think ‘ah this looks interesting, let’s try it!’. It’s always cool to extend your cultural horizon and to adopt some of the local food or habits, there’s nothing wrong about that and without doing it I probably wouldn’t have discovered the wonders of sausage rolls, meat pies or the fact that you can even have barbecue when it’s bloody cold and rainy outside.
But of course it’s not always a positive experience. One of the worst things that could potentially happen is that you spend 1-2 hours cooking an exceptional weekend meal, and after you added the final (new) ingredient you notice it pretty much tastes like shit and you just ruined the whole meal.
After this just happend to me once again I am thinking about sticking to Bratwurst from now on.
