In 2008 I moved from Germany to Australia, the best decision of my life. On this blog you can find stories and photos about hiking in Tasmania and on the mainland, travelling, and life in Australia — my journey from Working Holiday to Permanent Residency.

A city tour was part of my travel package so I was picked up early and driven to a bus company in the city from where the tour started.
We stopped at various points in the city, including a Chinese temple and a gem factory (no tour without a visit in at least one gem factory where you can spend all your money on stuff you don’t need). I found the tour was totally fascinating, mostly because Singapore was such a green city, exotic trees everywhere, not much traffic, great architecture, probably the cleanest city I’ve ever seen. Everything looked so well-kept and modern, I loved it.
The longest stop was at the National Orchid Garden, a part of the botanic garden. I really enjoyed it, it was hard to recognise where the city ended and where the botanic garden started. Since my hotel was nearby, I decided to come back in the afternoon.
After the tour a driver brought me to my hotel. I picked up some stuff and went back to the botanic garden. It was the biggest and greatest botanic garden ever, you literally need hours to see everything, totally worth a visit.
Somewhere in the middle of the garden, there was a nice little restaurant and I stayed to have lunch. It was fantastic food, I could see why business people went there for lunch.
It took me hours to walk around everywhere, so I was quite tired back at the hotel. I spent the rest of the day watching the soccer channel and ordered pizza from the room service. What a mistake! It was the worst pizza I ever had, absolutely everything tasted wrong and I had stomach pain throughout the night.
