Today I went for a walk to the old telegraph station in Alice Springs. There are a number of short walks in the area and it is also where the Larapinta Trail starts. I went a bit off-track and got some great photos of rare Black-footed Rock Wallabies.

Some of the most common birds in the outback are Galahs. Sometimes you can see swarms of 20 or more. They can often be seen on campgrounds where there is lawn and water. One of my favourites.

Another photo. Yesterday I walked around Adelaide and in the Botanic Garden I was surprised to find a colony of bats (Grey-headed flying foxes, to be precise) hanging in the trees. They made a scary kind of noise that could be heard from far away. I watched them for a while and even got to watch some flying between the trees. Pretty fascinating. They’re only fruit bats, but hanging upside down for most of the day and with their impressive wing span, they are interesting to watch.

On my trip from Port Campbell to Adelaide we stopped in Halls Gap for the night, in the beautiful Grampians National Park in Victoria. The next morning we went for a quick bushwalk to climb Hollow Mountain. The photo is from the summit.

I added a new photo album with photos from Melbourne. I will probably add more photos over the next days, so keep checking it if you like.
