The other day I saw a flock of 30-40 Little Corellas sitting in the trees in Fanny Bay, while I walked back along the beach from East Point Reserve to the city. It was very funny to watch them clowning around, although the people in the bar next to the trees probably weren’t too happy about their deafening screeching…

I finally got a good photo of a kangaroo with a joey, but it’s actually an Agile Wallaby as far as I can see. I spotted them near a petrol station between Kakadu and Litchfield.

There’s a pair of Port Lincoln Ringnecks that I can see almost every morning when I sit in the courtyard of YHA Alice Springs to have breakfast. Like many other parrots they are very playful and funny to watch.

The photo here however is actually from near the old telegraph station.

Today I went for a walk to the old telegraph station in Alice Springs. There are a number of short walks in the area and it is also where the Larapinta Trail starts. I went a bit off-track and got some great photos of rare Black-footed Rock Wallabies.

Some of the most common birds in the outback are Galahs. Sometimes you can see swarms of 20 or more. They can often be seen on campgrounds where there is lawn and water. One of my favourites.

Another photo. Yesterday I walked around Adelaide and in the Botanic Garden I was surprised to find a colony of bats (Grey-headed flying foxes, to be precise) hanging in the trees. They made a scary kind of noise that could be heard from far away. I watched them for a while and even got to watch some flying between the trees. Pretty fascinating. They’re only fruit bats, but hanging upside down for most of the day and with their impressive wing span, they are interesting to watch.

I took this photo in the Royal Botanic Garden in Melbourne today. I think it’s one of the best photos I ever took. It’s like looking at a car accident — it feels wrong, but somehow you can’t look away, there’s something fascinating. The swan by the way enjoyed the algae bath and tried to eat as much as possible.

One of the reasons I love to spend a sunny afternoon watching the Eastern Rosellas in Queen’s Domain, is, they’re capable of standing on one leg while using the other to lift up food — pretty fascinating to watch.
